Background of the Study
Television news broadcasting is a crucial medium for disseminating information, especially during election periods. In Nigeria, election transparency is a key concern, with challenges such as vote-buying, electoral malpractice, and inadequate reporting often undermining public confidence in the electoral process. Television news plays a significant role in promoting transparency by providing unbiased coverage of election events, exposing irregularities, and informing voters. This study aims to evaluate the impact of television news broadcasting on election transparency in Argungu LGA, Kebbi State, assessing how television news can enhance electoral integrity and public trust.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the significant role of television in promoting transparency, election-related issues, such as misinformation and biased reporting, continue to affect the credibility of elections in Nigeria. The impact of television news on improving transparency in elections within Argungu LGA has not been sufficiently studied. This research seeks to understand how television news broadcasting contributes to election transparency and its effectiveness in providing accurate, timely, and impartial election-related information.
